Exceptions to Co-op Program Policy

Participation in the Cooperative Education Program may lead to situations where a student wishes to request an exception or waiver from the established policies of the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies. To address such requests, a formal process has been established, allowing submissions to be reviewed by the Professional Standards Review Committee (PSRC).

Policy Overview

Students must adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the College and University, as detailed in the Co-op Student Handbook (add link to support page). Any deviation from these policies requires approval through the outlined process. Failure to follow this procedure may result in sanctions.

Instructions for Requesting Exceptions or Waivers

To request a program exception or waiver, students should:

  1. Review Policies: Examine the policy overview above and the complete policy in the Cooperative Education Student Handbook.
  2. Consultation: Discuss the situation with your co-op faculty advisor for clarification and guidance.
  3. Submit a Petition: Complete the PSRC Student Petition for Co-op Program Exception or Waiver (login to Microsoft Office 365 required).
  4. Provide Documentation: If the request is due to medical or military circumstances, submit relevant documentation.
  5. Detail Your Request: Include comprehensive details to facilitate a swift decision.

Next Steps

Upon submission, students will receive email confirmation and details about the meeting where their request will be reviewed. Attendance is suggested for complex cases requiring significant information or discussion.

Additional documentation may be requested by the co-op faculty advisor and/or PSRC, depending on the situation. The PSRC reviews cases according to their hearing schedule, typically twice per term, and communicates decisions via email.

Students and their co-op faculty advisor should collaborate to understand how the PSRC's decision impacts their participation in the co-op program, if applicable.
